Mr. Donald Jerry Dark, age 68, husband of Doris Dark, and a resident of Cranford Hollow in Columbia, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at his residence.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 6PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Mike Williams officiating. A visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 4-6PM at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 1PM at Spring Hill Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on June 29, 1948 in Williamson County, Donald was the son of the late William Baxter Dark and the late Sarah Pauline Boatright Dark. He was a 1967 graduate of Spring Hill High School and married Doris Mills on June 24, 1967. Donald served his country for two years in the United States Army. He worked twenty-eight years at Union Carbide, but his biggest passion was his ministry as a Church of Christ preacher for thirty-five years. He was most recently the full time pastor at Thompson Station Church of Christ which he highly enjoyed and was very special to him. Donald was a dedicated family man and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Lisa Dark (Shannon) Poynor of the Theta Community, Donald (Michelle) Dark, Jr. of Columbia; his twin brother: Ronald Terry (Judy) Dark of Columbia; sister: Frances Helen Dark of Columbia; grandchildren: Cody Sharpton, Tiffany Dark, Jessica Dark, David Poynor, and Katelyn Poynor; great grandchildren: River Sharpton, Bentley Miller, Alania Ables; and niece and nephews: Ken, Jason, and Tanya Dark, and Chris, Kim, and Kevin Harrell.
Pallbearers will be: Cody Sharpton, Mark Jones, Jessie Harrell, Tyler Miller, Jason Dark, and Ken Dark. Honorary pallbearers will include: the Churches of Christ of Maury County and the past employees of Union Carbide.
