Mr. William “Bill” Harmon, age 76, a resident of Columbia, passed away Friday morning, January 20, 2017 at Poplar Estates.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at 12PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor David Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Promise at Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. A visitation will be held on Monday from 10AM-12PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on May 23, 1940 in Henning, Tennessee, Bill was the son of the late John Milton Harmon, Jr. and the late Virginia Henley Harmon. He served his country in the United States Army and was a former member of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. He worked as an electronic technician for Bell South for thirty-six years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Communication Workers of America Local 3803. Bill loved Nascar and his Harley Davidson motorbike. He enjoyed taking trips in his camper “The Coach” and was always the life of the party.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters: Bethany (Brian) Jones of Hampshire, Angela Harmon of Columbia; brothers: John Harmon III of Henning, TN, Donald (Melody) Harmon of Lebanon, Richard (Michelle) Harmon of Akin, SC; grandchildren: Meghan Smith of Spring Hill, Emily Smith of Culleoka, Christian Roberts of Hampshire, Cassidi Jones of Columbia, Maya Brewer of Columbia; special companion: Dotsy Hight of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be: Tommy Hight, Jr., Brian Adams, Brian Jones, Jimmy Vick, Olumide Aderoba, and Gerald Vick.

Honorary pallbearers will include: the former and present employees of Bellsouth, the caretakers at the Gardens of Poplar Estates, Dr. Doug Kennedy, and the staff of Avalon Hospice.
