Susie Jane Kelley

January 9, 1925 - January 3, 2017

Susie “Sue” Beard Kelley, age 91, and a resident of the Water Valley Community, passed away Tuesday morning, January 3, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Due to the weather, funeral services for Susie have been rescheduled to Sunday at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Mike Williams and Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on January 9, 1925 in Maury County, Sue was the daughter of the late John Francis Beard and the late Ivadel Adkison Beard. She attended Santa Fe School and was a member of Water Valley Church of Christ. Sue enjoyed cooking and gardening. Along with her work as a homemaker, Sue made sure no one ever went hungry. She and her husband, Elmer, maintained a one acre garden together for many years. They were married 69 years before he preceded her in death in February of 2014. Sue also loved tending to her chickens and all of her beautiful flowers.

She is survived by her children: Jimmy Jackson Kelley of Water Valley, Barbara Kelley Liner of Water Valley; brother: Wayne Beard of Lawrence County; sisters: Athalene Cox of Columbia, Katherine Beard of Columbia, Nellie Scott of Santa Fe; grandchildren: Kelley Holder of Hohenwald, Joey Farmer of Nolensville, Sarah McCormick of Culleoka, Chris Kelley of Water Valley; six great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: T.L. Beard, E.G. Beard, J.W. Beard, Harold Beard; and sisters: Elizabeth Smithson and Elsie Riley.

Pallbearers will be: B.J. McCormick, Mickey Prince, Micah Dukes, Larry Flowers, Joe Hargrove, Stephen Farmer, and Tony Holder. Honorary pallbearers will include: Chris Kelley and the members of Water Valley Church of Christ.
