Barnett "Barney" Roland

January 20, 1931 - December 16, 2016

Barnett (Barney) Hines Roland born January 20, 1931. He  departed this life on Friday December 16, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center. He was 85 years old. Visitation for Mr. Roland will be Monday December 19, 2016 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday December 20, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Southgate Church of Christ with John Thomas and Joe Macer officiating. There will be visitation 1 hour prior to service. Burial will follow at the Arbors at Polk Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Barney was a native of Columbia and was affectionately known as Pop Pop Barney. He was the son of the late Will and Althea McNeese Roland. He was a member of the Southgate Church of Christ since July 9, 2007 and was baptized into Christ at the age of 76 years old. He was an employee of Hooker Chemical Company from 1958-1972 where he was a furnace tapper. He was a long time cab driver having worked for Will Rinks Taxi Service starting at the age of 12 as a dispatcher later becoming a driver. He also worked for Linville's Taxi Service for over 25 and he was a former employee of Cates Cab Service and Winn's Taxi Service. His career spanned over 40 years in the business. He loved to fish in his younger days and could be found fishing at the Columbia Dam.

He is survived by his only child: Jadonna (Tommy, Jr.) Hight of Columbia; two grandsons: Blake (Carrie) Hight, and Mathis Hight affectionately known as " The little boy;"  sister- in-law: Patricia Roland; a special niece: Karla Roland; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers: Fred (Lillie) Roland, John (Hazel) Roland, Toby (Faylene) Roland, Carl (Marion) Roland, Alton (Joyce) Roland, and Rondal Roland; and a sister: Katherine Marie Borman.

Pallbearers will be: Blake Hight, Jim Lawrence, Bill Beattie, John Robinson, David Gray, and Richard Farris.

Honorary Pallbearers will include: Faye Hartsfield, Lorene Hickman, Tommy Hight, Sr., Cummins Couch, M.D., Karen Perry, NP  Nursing Staff, CNA's, and employees of Hillview NHC, Elders and Deacons of the Southgate Church of Christ, past employees of Hooker Chemical Company and former cab drivers, Caregivers: Margo Andrews, Kay Lott, Sharla Bowman, and Lauren Lankford.
