Mr. Robert W. French, age 91, a resident of Columbia, TN and formerly of Dwight, IL, went to be with his lord and savior on Saturday, December 10, 2016.
A Veteran Memorial Service will be held at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL, in the spring of 2017.
Mr. French was born on July 30, 1925 in Joliet, IL He was the son of the late Raymond and Margaret Simon French and the husband of the late Wanda French, who preceded him in death on December 21, 2015. Robert served his country in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Charles J. Badger (DD-657). After returning from service, he joined the trucking firm Sheik Motor Express and worked there for 43 years before retiring. He was a history buff who liked reading, trains and traveling, He especially enjoyed antique farm machinery and mules. Along with his wife, they were members of the Dwight United Methodist Church.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his daughters: Pauletta (Victor) Borchardt of Clifton, TN, Patricia (Dean) Shipley of Murfreesboro, TN and Claudia (Gary) Wilson of Adairsville, GA; sisters: Margaret Marie Keith, Betty June French and Janet Evans; grandchildren: Elizabeth Muller, Christine Thomas, Victoria Dahlberg, Frank Paul Lasser, John Phelan, Paul Phelan, Matthew Wysock, Rebecca Garrett, Jessica Carlton and Anna Wilson; 24 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Carolyn Lasser; brother: Raymond French; sister: Lois Parker.
