Laura M. Edwards

January 15, 1952 - November 27, 2016

Laura M. Edwards, age 64, a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Life Care Center.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Carletta Webster officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on January 15, 1952 in Maury County, Laura was the daughter of the late Rev. Charlie Edwards and the late Dorothy Phelps Edwards. She was a 1970 graduate of Clark High School in Mt. Pleasant and was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Spring Hill. Laura worked at Weather Tamer for nearly 20 years and then at The Hilton Hotel in Brentwood as a supervisor of housekeeping and laundry for 20 years before retiring in 2012. She loved to dance, sing, read, and all together have a good time. Laura especially loved her very special granddaughter, Rolanda Edwards.

She is survived by her daughter: LaWanda Edwards of Columbia; sister: Dorothy Akins of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughter: Rolanda Edwards of Columbia; devoted friend: Alfonzia Akins of Columbia; niece: Shanrieka Akins; and nephew: Jordan Akins.

Pallbearers will be Deacon Albert “Pete” Williams, Maynard Lewis, Ronald Webster, Donnie Edwards, James “Chuck” Russell, and Deacon Ronald Watkins. Honorary pallbearers will be the class of 1970 of Clark High School in Mt. Pleasant.
