Melvin Lavely

July 12, 1928 - November 16, 2016

Mr. Melvin John Lavely, age 88, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2016 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Deacon Dan McCulley officiating. The family will visit with friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home.

Born July 12, 1928 in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Wilbert and Mildred Bond Lavely and husband of the late Theresa Vellemberger Lavely, who preceded him in death in 2012. He was a tool and die maker for General Electric for 35 years. He loved to dance and take cruises with his wife, play tennis and golf. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, snow skiing and swimming.

Mr. Lavely is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Douglas and Gayle Lavely of Columbia; brothers: Melvin Lavely, Jr. of Florida and nelson (Marcella) Lavely of Michigan; grandchildren: Jeremy Lavely (Tabitha Johnson) and Matthew Lavely; great grandchildren: Landon and Braxton Lavely.
