Mr. Dewey V. Johnson, age 78, husband of Nancy Johnson, and a resident of Walnut Drive in Columbia, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at his residence.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Davy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 4-8PM and again on Sunday from 1-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on May 29, 1938 in Giles County, Dewey was the son of the late Willard M. Johnson and the late Lacy Casteel Johnson Boston. He graduated from Columbia Central High School and received a Certificate in Electronics from Columbia State Community College. Dewey was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as Air Police. He worked for DuPont Sponge Company for sixteen years and for TVA Electric for twenty-two years before retiring in 2001. Dewey loved the Lord and enjoyed witnessing to others and talking about the Bible. He especially loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, of nearly 54 years, he is survived by his son: Davy (Wendy) Johnson of Athens, AL; daughters: Carla Johnson of Fort Worth, TX, Bethany Yeager of Bowling Green, KY; brothers: Bobby Gene Johnson of Gordonsville, TN, Charles (Ellen) Johnson of Spring Hill; grandchildren: Aaron Yeager of New Orleans, LA, Presleigh Jaggers of Bowling Green, KY, Isaiah Willis of Bowling Green, KY, and Lawson Johnson of Athens, AL; half brother: Willard Johnson, Jr.; half sisters: Beverly Green, Darlene Fisher; sister-in-law: Marjorie Johnson; and first cousin: Edward Kelly.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Cleophus Johnson, J.M. Johnson; half brother: Billy Johnson; son-in-law: Tom Yeager; and grandparents: Harrison & Ella Casteel and Edward M. & Rose Johnson.
Pallbearers will be: his nephews: Tim Thurman, Greg Dodson, Kevin Boyd, Breck Boyd, Neal Johnson, and Ed Straight.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Travis Warf, Glen Johnson, James Bell, Donnie Lovell, his nephews: Jason Johnson, Nicholas McVicker, Beau McVicker, Royce Lurie, Jose Guardado, Jessup Manning, and his co-workers at TVA and DuPont.
