Mrs. Margaret Okalene Henson Thomas, age 88, affectionately known as Ms. Margaret and a resident of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, October 23 at NHC/Hillview.
Funeral services for Ms. Margaret will be held on Wednesday, October 26 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Dan King and Troy Dugger officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born August 30, 1928 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Martin Henson and Annie Eveline Thomason Henson and the wife of the late Robert Thomas, who preceded her in death in 1999. A 1947 graduate of Haylong High School, Ms. Margaret worked as a clerk in the grocery operated by her brother, Morrow B. Henson and a member of the Locust Street Church of Christ. She loved to have conversations with all of her friends, go to yard sales, travel and to eat out.
Ms. Margaret is survived by a nephew: James Henson, Jr. of Nashville; niece: Sue Ann Slate of Hampton, VA; brothers-in-law: Jimmy (Ruby) Thomas of Chapel Hill and Roy Ellingboe of Tampa, FL; several nieces and nephews in the Thomas family; 1 great nephew and 2 great nieces; Mary (Johnny) Gibson, to whom she referred to as daughter and John (Linda) Dugger, to whom she referred to as son; Juanita Goodman to whom she called sister.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers: James Henson, Ernie Henson, Eugene Henson and Morrow B. Henson.
Pallbearers will be Carl Martin, Larry Yeager, Jonathan Runions, Sam Hinson, Hendley Edwards, Alan Thomason, Anthony Davis, Tommy Woolaver and Luc Edwards.
