October 15, 2016 marked the passing of a brilliant man. He was known by many names to many people, but most importantly a loving Husband, Father and PawPaw.
James “Darrell” Brown, age 63, was surrounded by his loving family when his Earth’s Journey ended. He passed away at home after a 16-month battle with cancer.
Visitation will be held Monday from 5-8 pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia, TN. A Celebration of Life, officiated by Jeremy Butt of North View church of Christ, Eddie Rogers, and special words by his son-in-law, Jeremy Woodard on Tuesday at 2 pm with visitation from 12-2 pm. Burial will follow the service in Jones Cemetery.
Darrell was born in Columbia, TN on June 9, 1953. He graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1971. Darrell was a devoted employee at Robeson Sewing Machine Co. for the past 26 years. In his earlier working years, he was employed by Akins Market, where he first laid eyes on the love of his life, soul mate and wife of almost 43 years. He also worked for Publix Shirt Manufacturing and the Columbia Fire Department, where he was better known as “Bullet”.
He was a faithful servant of God attending various local congregations. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to cook, fished any chance he had and he could fix practically anything, while carrying on a “happy whistle” with everything he did. He was a selfless, wonderful man who enjoyed helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Esker P. Brown and Rebecca Lovett Brown and a niece; Andrea Michelle Brown. He was survived by his loving wife, Sherry Ann Brown of Columbia, children; Tiffany (Jeremy) Woodard of Spring Hill and Jonathan (Leslie) Brown of Thompsons Station, grandchildren; Brady & Hudson Woodard and Caroline & Parker Brown, brother, P. Doyle Brown of Lobelville and niece, April (Kojo) Brown Asante of Antioch, TN, Aunts; Joanne Fitzgerald of Tullahoma, Linda Pigg of Murfreesboro and Bobbie Ann Lovett in Columbia and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Mike Fitzgerald, Brian Pigg, Hamilton Lomax, Doug Yant, Steve Anderson, Andy Heithcock, Blake Smith and Doug Spicer.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Gerald Robeson and his fellow co-workers at Robeson Sewing Machine along with his in-laws/out-laws; Janet (Jerry) Hines, Carol (Wayne) Williams, Larry (Donna) White, Rickey (Teresa) Bradley, Dieann Lomax and Kevin Long. Special friends; Eddie & Mary Rogers.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice Compassus and their wonderful caregivers, Stephanie and Amanda.
