Joyce Elaine Young

March 2, 1945 - September 24, 2016

Joyce "Elaine" Young, age 71, passed away peacefully at her residence in Lynnville on September 24, 2016.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 1st at 6pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation will be held prior to memorial service from 4-6pm. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on March 2, 1945 in Maury County, Joyce "Elaine" was the daughter of the late Brown Harwell and the late Jennie Black Harwell. Her most recent work was as a volunteer at Maury Regional Hospital after her disabilities prevented her from working. She worked at Poplar Estates for a few years as activity director and absolutely adored the residents as they became like family to her. She is probably recognized by most from either her 20 years employment with Johnsons Controls or her years at Dixie Mfg. where she developed lifelong friendships. She was a long time member of Graymere Church of Christ.  She loved gardening and sewing and spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by her daughters: Carol Gray (James Shelton) of Lynnville and Tammy Young of Nashville; sister: Eugenia (Eddie) Bobo; nephew: Steven Bobo; grandchildren: Jayda (Chris) Couch, Charlie Smith, Dustin Smith, Bradley (Tequishia) Shelton; four great grandchildren; several wonderful friends; special former brother and sisters in law: W. C. Young, Hester Smith, Doris (Roger) King, Kathey Gillum and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister: Evelyn Harwell; a grandson: Jarret Gray and son in law J. C. "Jay" Gray Jr.
