Joan Osteen Frye, age 83, a resident of Lewisburg, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at her residence.

Joan was born on July 10, 1933 in Covington, Tennessee. She graduated from Central High School in 1951. Her senior year she was awarded as an All Star basketball player. She attended Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro and Columbia Business College in Columbia. Joan was also a member of the Hardison Mill Softball Team where she played 2nd base.

Mrs. Frye was a member of Walker Memorial Baptist Church in Franklin, as well as a member of South Trinity Presbyterian Church in Nashville. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and was the church Treasurer for many years. Later she became a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Franklin. A highlight of her life was getting to meet Norman Vincent Peale and Mrs. Peale.

Mrs. Frye was employed for over 30 years with the Federal Government working for the Internal Revenue Service for six and a half years and the Veteran’s Hospital for 24 years as a Medical Transcriptionist. She earned many outstanding performance awards and accommodations. She retired from American Medical Transcription Company at the age of 70.

Mrs. Frye had a huge heart, impacting many lives with her kindness. She was not a person to keep good things to herself. When she heard of someone being sick or needing cheering up, she would often send a card, bake a cake, or cook a meal for them. This was her way of caring for others and serving the Lord.

She is survived by her daughter, Lee Ann Frye of Lewisburg; grandchildren: Dana (Michael) Hargis of Nashville, Holly (Michael) Kniery of Hendersonville, Jessica (Wayne) Schill of Clarksville, Riley Frye of Lynnville; great grandchildren: Logan Hargis and Jake Kniery; nieces, Carolyn Autry and Suzanne (Gary) Warf; and nephew, Lynn Frye.
