Mirtie Bell Ellis Armstrong

Mirtie Bell Ellis Armstrong, age 82, a resident of Columbia passed away Sunday morning, September 11, 2016 at Signature Healthcare.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on December 9, 1933 in Columbia, Mirtie was the daughter of the late Sam B. Ellis and the late Meadie Davis Ellis. She attended Bethel School. She was of the Christian Faith and was born again and baptized in 1981. Mirtie worked for several different garment factories until she quit her work to take care of her husband who became ill in 1970. She cared for him for 13 years until he passed away on their anniversary on July 13, 1983.

She is survived by her sons: Allen (Cathy) Armstrong of Columbia, Steve Williams (Peggy) Armstrong of Columbia; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Sam Ellis, Thomas Andrews; sisters: Rachel Hedrick, Daisy Hogan; and grandson: Terry Armstrong.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
