Mr. Wardell Terry Anderson, age 78, a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Ricky Clay officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery in the Theta Community with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-7PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Wardell was born on April 15, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of Theta Church of Christ. Wardell was young at heart, full of life, and all together fun to be around. He was very sociable and never met a stranger. In his younger years, Wardell was a ballet dance teacher. He loved dancing and could play many different instruments. He was a huge wrestling fan, and he often practiced meditation. Wardell also enjoyed going on day trips and adventures. Above all, he was a loving and caring man who will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife: Emma C. Hunt Anderson of Columbia; daughters: Erica Anderson of Wisconsin, Martiona Anderson of Columbia; step children: Flora Walker (James) Garlan of Selmer, TN, Irwin “Buddy” Walker of Mississippi, Matthias Norfleet, Marc Norfleet, Malcolm Norfleet all of Wisconsin; and grandchildren: Marquesha, Michael, Jasnique, Jaquan, and Shantasha Norfleet.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eunice Mariweather Benjamin.

Pallbearers will be: Matthew Helmick, Hank Chatman, Michael Norfleet, Tom Demonbreum, Kerry “Taz” Brown, Jimmy Phillips. Honorary pallbearers include the members of Theta Church of Christ.
