James Browning

December 10, 1941 - August 25, 2016

Mr. James T. Browning, age 74, a resident of Columbia, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living.

The family will celebrate his life with a family gathering at Hines Cemetery in Summertown at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on December 10, 1941 in Summertown, James was the son of the late Elzie Browning and the late Ila Marie Graves Browning. He attended Garett Elementary School from 1946-1954,  Hohenwald High School from 1955-1957, and Summertown High School from 1957-1959 where he graduated. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University, and served three years in the United States Army. James was employed with International Business Machines Corporation from 1970-1996 until he retired. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia and enjoyed reading and being outdoors.

He is survived by his twin sister: Joyce (Carl) Wilkinson of Columbia; and nieces and nephews: Carla (William) Caraway, Darrell Wilkinson, David Wilkinson, Judy Shaw, Donnie Gilliam, Gina Parks, and Jerry Brewer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Doris Wayne Browning; sister: Ruth Brewer; niece: Terri Gestring; and nephew: Lynn Brewer.
