Ann Compton Massey, age 81, of Columbia, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center under Hospice Care.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 6PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Lyndall Probst officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-6PM at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will be held on Saturday at Polk Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ann was the daughter of the late Robert Smith Compton and the late Nora Higgins Compton and was born one block from Maury County Court House below Lucille’s Restaurant on October 17, 1934. She attended Maury County schools and married Wayne Massey in 1952. She spent the next thirty-four years accompanying him to U.S. and overseas assignments. Ann worked for the National Security Agency, was Treasurer for U.S. MAG Commissary, Teheran and Property Manager for the U.S. Embassy in Republique De Djibouti. She lived in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Iran (three times), Mexico, Pakistan, Djibouti, and Thailand. Ann enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, and bowling, as well as, fishing, travelling, playing darts, and watching game shows.
Along with her husband, Thomas Wayne Massey, of 64 years, she is survived by her son: Dwayne Thomas (Becca) Massey of Columbia; daughter: Cheryl Lynn Massey-Cappula of La Vergne; brother: Patrick Stevenson Compton of Columbia; grandsons: Mason Thomas Massey (Lindsey Allison), Tyler Wayne Massey, Jonathan Wyatt (Kim) Sweeney; granddaughter: Michelle Leigh (Dave) Sweeney-Jetton; great grandchildren: Parker, Logan, and Ryleigh Jetton, and Austyn and Alyvia Sweeney; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother: Robert Morris Compton; and special friends: Louise Brown, Mary Catherine Howell, and Sara Tom McKennon.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Ben Gardner, the Staff of Hospice Compassus, and the 3rd Floor Staff at Maury Regional Medical Center for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
