A visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8PM and again on Tuesday from 10-11AM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on June 7, 1935 in Hampshire, Ray was the son of the late English Gibson and the late Clara Johnson Gibson. He was a member of Mt. Wesley-Akin Nazarene Church in Santa Fe. Ray was a professional barber for over 50 years at Gibson Brothers California Concept in Columbia which was the first unisex barber shop in Maury County. He was a very special and compassionate person who often cut people’s hair who could not afford it. He also volunteered his time cutting hair at the children’s home and would do hair at funeral homes at no cost. Children loved Ray and his big smile. He had a special way about him that made children and animals gravitate toward him. Ray was an excellent cook who made delicious orange cake and dozens of pies at Christmas time to give away to his customers and people who were ill. He loved spoiling his grandchildren and teaching them how to cook. Ray also enjoyed carving wood. He carved many different Christmas ornaments and hummingbirds and gave them away to his family and friends. Ray will be best remembered as an extremely charitable, kind hearted and compassionate person who loved unconditionally. If there was ever a child that was abused or neglected, he would pick them up and take them in until they were able to get back on their feet. Above all Ray was a very unique person who loved life to the fullest. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. There will never be another quite like him.

He is survived by his son: Chris (Becky) Gibson of Spring Hill; grandchildren: Malcolm Graham (Alicia) Gibson, Luke Garrett Gibson, Anna Claire Gibson all of Spring Hill; nieces and nephews: Larry Holt of Nashville, Kathey (Jim) Phelps of Columbia, Terry Orton of Columbia, Stoney (Diana) Orton of Union City, Pamela Gibson of Mt. Pleasant, and numerous other nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law: Lennie Mae Gibson of Columbia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Christine Gibson; brothers: Edward Gibson, Alvin Gibson, Jerry Gibson; and sisters: Ruby Holt, and Betty Orton.

Pallbearers will be: Roscoe Williams, Jeff Dillehay, Marc Craig, Malcolm Graham Gibson, Terry Orton, Tim Kelley, and Stoney Orton. Honorary pallbearers will be: the barbers and customers of Gibson Brothers California Concept.
