Rachel Mae Foster Smith, age 96, a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016 at The Gardens of Poplar Estates.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 7PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Dr. Barry Farris and Chris Smith officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3-7PM at the funeral home. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday at Williamson Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on March 5, 1920 in Nashville, Rachel was the daughter of the late Henry Ambrose Foster and the late Lauradene Reagan Foster. She was of the Church of Christ faith and was a member of Stiversville Church of Christ. Rachel was a wonderful Christian lady. She enjoyed baking breads and cakes and had a green thumb when it came to flowers. Rachel was a homemaker and took great pride in her children and husband. She cared for everyone she knew and will be deeply missed by them all.

She is survived by her daughter: Anita Smith (Tony) Simmons of Manchester; brother: Larimore (Jill) Foster of Brentwood; grandchildren: Yancey (Allison) Smith of Columbia, Chris (Michelle) Smith of Lexington, Phillip Simmons of Columbia, Weston (Ashley) Simmons of Manchester, Amanda Smith of Columbia, Cody Smith of Columbia; and sixteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Buford B. Smith; children: Buford Wayne Smith, Gary Foster Smith; brothers: Rogers Foster, Jewerl T. Foster, Robert “Bobby” Foster; and sisters: Mabel Smith and Virginia Vaupel.

Rachel’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
