Billy Henderson Pigg, son of the late Bert and Mamie Pigg, age 80, retired Safety Engineer from CIGNA and Reliance Insurance Company, died Friday morning, June 17, 2016 at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tennessee.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 5-7PM and on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 1-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
The Tennessee native was a graduate of Culleoka High School in Culleoka, attended Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, MTSU in Murfreesboro, and served in the National Guard before retirement. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Columbia. Billy was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and their funeral detail, and from 2008-2009 he served as Commander of the American Legion Post 19 in Columbia. Later he was a member of Post 12 in Franklin. He was a former American Society of Safety Engineers member while working for CIGNA and Reliance Insurance Companies.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Linda Lovett Pigg of Murfreesboro; son: Brian Henderson (Tracy) Pigg of Murfreesboro; daughter: Mary Angela Hooper (Grady Payne) of Murfreesboro; five grandchildren: Andrew Steven Hooper, Abigail Rose Hooper, David Payne, Cayley Foxworthy, Ryan Daniels all of Murfreesboro; sisters: Bobbie (Charlie) Smith, Jenny Nicholson Keel; sisters-in-law: Joanne Fitzgerald, Bobbie Ann Lovett; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Bryan Buie, Jay Lucas, Patrick McElhiney, Mike Fitzgerald, James G. Heithcock, and Jerry Haynes, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Jerry Haynes, Sr., Jerry Abner, Mark Snyder, Greg Jackson, Wayne Key, Jeff Fitzgerald, Doyle Brown, Darrell Brown, Jim Pugh, and the members of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.
