Chris Leachman, Jr. age 82, a resident of Anderson, AL, passed away Friday, June 10, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN.
The family will celebrate his life with a memorial service at a later date. He will be laid to rest by a Naval Burial at Sea. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on March 4, 1934 in Crowley County, Colorado, Chris was the son of the late Christian Joseph Leachman and the late Lydia Pfanenstiel Leachman. He was of the Methodist faith and was married to his wife and soul mate, Janice, for 41 years. Chris’ passion was his time spent serving his country in the United States Navy and his work in civil service. He was a logistical operations manager and deputy project manager for Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville until he retired in 1988. After retirement, he worked for the Missile Defense Agency until 2005. He also loved farming and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and puppy, Angel. He was a man of few words who had a warm smile and beautiful blue eyes. He will be best remembered for his finger lickin’ ribs on the 4th of July.
In addition to his wife, Jan, he is survived by his son: Douglas (Esther) Leachman; daughters: Karen (Pete) Allison, Kim (Eric) Sanderson, Christi Leachman; brother: Jerry (Joyce) Leachman; sisters: Dorothy Olson, Carolyn (Dick) Giarratano, Kay (Fred) Fair; grandchildren: Sherye Letson, Christina Stewart, Allen Leachman, Lauren Allison, Lydia Allison, Chris Allison, Joshua Roberts, Ryan Sanderson, Emily Sanderson, Sarah Kate Sanderson; and great grandchildren: Dylan Brantley, Brayden Letson, Cam Letson, and Lucas Stewart.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Ed Leachman; sister: Virginia Scalva.
Memorial donations can be made to your local SPCA, Alzheimer’s Association, or American Parkinson Disease Association.
