Mr. James Fitzgerald, age 79, a resident of Vestal Hollow Road in Santa Fe, passed away Friday morning, May 13, 2016 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 4:30PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Chad Roland officiating. Burial will follow in Carlisle Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday from 4-8PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on March 27, 1937 in Maury County, James was the son of the late Colby Fitzgerald and the late Lecie Ferguson Fitzgerald. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. James loved his family and all of the children. He enjoyed yard work and gardening and was a huge wrestling and Hank Williams fan. Above all, James loved the Lord and enjoyed reading his Bible.

He is survived by his wife: Betty Fitzgerald of Santa Fe; sons: Robert (Tammy) Fitzgerald of Santa Fe, Marvin Fitzgerald of Santa Fe; daughters: Carolyn Oakley of Santa Fe, Barbara (Bob) Linzey of Thompson’s Station, Sandra (David) Hall of Santa Fe; step-sons: Ralph Harper of Santa Fe, Raymond Harper of Spring Hill, Richard (Jennifer) Harper of Bethesda; brothers: Jack (Susan) Fitzgerald of Thompson’s Station, Thomas (Mary) Fitzgerald of Franklin, Edward (Linda) Fitzgerald of Columbia; sisters: Mary (Martin) Dean of Columbia, Sarah Nance of Franklin, Nolene (Garland) Horner of Centerville; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; nine step grandchildren;  nine step great grandchildren; special friends: Alvin Cothran and “Chump”; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons: Jerry Fitzgerald, Jim Fitzgerald; brothers: Carl Fitzgerald, Jim Colby Fitzgerald; granddaughter: Lacey Oakley; step daughter: Margaret Sweeney; step great grandson: Gunner Adams; his first wife: Ida Mai Fitzgerald.

Pallbearers will be: Jeffrey Fitzgerald, Chris Fitzgerald, Michael Fitzgerald, Dylan Hall, Jackson Harper, Patrick Harper, Michael Goins, and Hunter Duke. The men of New Life Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family requests the memorial donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Middle Tennessee: 2120 Crestmoor Road, Nashville, TN 37215-2613.
