Edith Glen Palmer, age 87, a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016 at her residence.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 10th at 2 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Ricky Cotton officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 9th from 4-8 PM and again on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on June 15, 1928 in Cullman, Alabama, Edith was the daughter of the late Martin McMullin and the late Bertha Shaffer McMullin. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. Along with her work as a homemaker, she enjoyed babysitting nearly every kid in the neighborhood. Edith had an open door policy at her home. She enjoyed cooking for any and everybody. Edith loved spending time with her family and friends and will be deeply missed by them. She loved many and was loved by many.

She is survived by her son: Mac (Debbie) Palmer of Columbia; daughter: Brenda (Kerry) Hightower of Columbia; grandchildren: Jason Palmer, Michelle Sullivan, Shannon (Mike) Tingle, Stephanie (Dan) Keele, Jimmy (Stephanie) Palmer, Jr., Kelly Palmer; thirteen great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Brady Wilburn Palmer; son: Jimmy Wayne Palmer; and brothers: Gene McMullin, Joe McMullin, and Tom McMullin.

Pallbearers will be: Brett Szostek, Randy Moss, Jeremiah Ragsdale, Leroy Chumley, Doris McMullin, Tony Sullivan, Dan Keele, Brian Richardson, Jimmy Davidson, and Justin Rhodes. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Mike Tingle, Tom Szostek, Jason Palmer, and the United States Marine Corps League Detachment 1286 of Columbia.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice Compassus for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
