Mr. Lillard Butch Martin, age 70, a resident of Culleoka, passed away April 24th at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Ledbetter and Pastor Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Army. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Butch was born on January 6, 1946 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was raised in Tennessee Orphan Home in Spring Hill and graduated from Spring Hill High School. While attending Spring Hill High School he was the basketball and football star. He was offered a scholarship, but because of a knee injury was unable to pursue his heart’s desire. After graduating, Butch served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was a Helicopter Mechanic and Door Gunner. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He later worked as a mechanical engineer for General Electric where he retired. After retiring, Butch and his wife, Doris, pastored several different churches together in surrounding counties.

He is survived by his sons: Kerry (Janice) Pruitt, David (Lisa) Pruitt, Gary (Dana) Martin; daughters: Christy (Tommy) Lawwell, Kelly (Chris) Holcomb, Angie (Tommy) Patt; brother: Sonny Martin; grandchildren: Jimmy, Mitchell, and Jason Pruitt, Sarina Szablewski, Joshua, Katie Pruitt, Devin, Catrena Lawwell, Ben, Nathan, Zach Pruitt, Sean, Sierra, Kendall Holcomb, Tyler and Peyton Martin, and Thomas and Kayla Patt, and A.J. and Michael Greene; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Doris of 43 years, he was preceded in death by his son: Jimmy Darryl Pruitt; great-grandson: Layton Coggin; and sister: Lillian Sue Moss.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
