Sandra Lassiter

April 16, 2016

Sandra Lee Brown Lassiter passed away on April 16, 2016. She is survived by her husband: Dennis Max Lassiter, sister: Rebecca Brown Dean, brothers: Brett Baker Heckman, Donald Lee Heckman, Jr., and Karl Waring Heckman. She was preceded in death by her parents: Donald Lee Heckman, Sr. and Mozell Baker Heckman and her father, Odis Lee Brown.

From Little Miss Memphis to Tennessee’s Majorette doll, Sandy was a natural beauty, confident in her talents and her presence. She was a competitive baton twirler from a very young age with cases full of winner’s trophies. She led her high school twirling team to a state championship in costumes of her own design, while simultaneously playing on the girls’ basketball team, earning state recognition for her individual play.

A proud University of Tennessee alumnus, Sandy was a four year Majorette in the Pride of the Southland Marching Band. During her education there, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. A degree she valued throughout her career.

Upon graduation, she began graduate studies while she worked at Vanderbilt University. She was always very proud of her Vanderbilt ties, and ironically, was diagnosed there in November of 2015 with the disease that took her life in such an untimely fashion.

While she was a nurse by education, she was a sales person by avocation, winning multiple sales awards from her employers, all nationally recognized leaders in the medical field.

But her greatest achievement was founding Onsite Nurse Concierge in Orange County, California in 2006. Starting by serving unmet needs in Assisted Living Facilities, she grew the company to a multi-million dollar enterprise in just a few years. Servicing a home-bound population with at home laboratory services and private duty nursing, she increased the quality of life for many thousands of Orange County seniors. She was honored by the University of Tennessee’s school of nursing in 2012 as one of the 40 graduates to make a substantial difference in their community and the lives of others.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service on April 23rd at 1:30 PM at Harpeth Presbyterian Church, 3077 Hillsboro Road, Brentwood, TN 37027. Visitation will be prior the service at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice or Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Heritage Funeral Home of Franklin is assisting the family with arrangements.
