Mr. Michael Carroll Walters “Pickle,” age 45, well known Real Estate Broker, and resident of Knob Creek Road in Columbia, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at his residence.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony Muston officiating. Burial will be held in Knob Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, adjoining the family farm. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 3:00 – 8:00 PM and on Friday beginning at 12:00 PM prior to the funeral at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on January 14, 1971 in Maury County, Michael was the son of Jerry Arlton and Carroll Faye Davis Walters. He married his Santa Fe High School sweetheart, Dana Atkins Walters, on December 4, 1993. Michael was a 1989 graduate of Santa Fe High School and earned his Associates Degree in pre-engineering from Columbia State Community College. He was a member of Knob Creek Baptist Church and was presently working as a Real Estate Broker for United Country Realty in Columbia. He earned numerous top sales awards over the course of his career. Michael was President of Walters Group Incorporated/ Michael Walters Construction, building over 100 homes in Maury County and establishing several residential developments. Michael enjoyed riding with and watching his boys ride dirt bikes and four wheelers and taught them many different things in the aspect of their lives. He was very fond of his son’s friends who he called “his own boys.” Michael will be dearly missed by his mother and father-in-law who considered him as their own son. Michael enjoyed being with his dear friends doing what he loved to do. Above all else, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, and friend.
In addition to his wife of 23 years and his parents, he is survived by his sons: Jonathan Michael Walters and Blake Atkins Walters both of Columbia; brother: Sammy (Tammy White) Walters of Columbia; sister-in-law: Briggett Atkins (Rodney) Collins of Culleoka; father-in-law: Calvin Atkins of Santa Fe; mother-in-law: Carolyn Potts of Columbia; nieces: Katie Walters of Columbia, Josie Collins and Hannah Collins both of Culleoka; nephew: Ryan Walters of Columbia; and grandmother: Marie Vestal Walters of Columbia.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: J.E. & Frances Mayberry Davis and Bracken Walters, Jr.
Pallbearers will be his nephew: Ryan Walters; cousins: Allen Dodson, Jeremy Hanback, and Deric Keltner; and special friends: Henry “Toot” Jones, Johnny Andrews, Jimmy Woodall, and Mason Turner. Santa Fe Class of 1989 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been set up at Heritage Bank & Trust: 217 S. James Campbell Blvd, Columbia, TN 38401 for Jonathan and Blake.
