Mr. Paul Ervin Lentz, age 84, a resident of General Roberts Drive in Columbia, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM at The Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ with Dr. Henry Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Navy. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on February 18, 1932 in Culleoka, Paul was the son of the late Ernest Scott Lentz and the late Effie Sue Martin Lentz. He was a 1950 graduate of Culleoka School and served his country in the United States Navy in Japan and Guam. Paul married the love of his life, Mary Lentz, on April 7, 1962. She preceded him in death on August 31, 2010. Paul was a member of The Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ and was retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company as well as the Tire Center at Walmart. Paul loved going to church and reading his Bible. He also enjoyed traveling, camping in his motor home, and spoiling his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter: Valentina (Wilton) VunCannon of Columbia; grandchildren: Pauldaniel “Buddy” VunCannon of Orlando, FL, Rachel Naomi VunCannon of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: J.W., Harold, Gordon, and Fred Lentz; and his sister: Rachel Lentz.

Pallbearers will be: Daniel VunCannon, David Parker, Sr., Terry Malcolm, Jimmy Guthrie, Mike Lentz, and Tommy Lentz. The Men of The Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
