Jacquelyn Betty Rewis Modrall, age 84, a resident of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. David Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM as well as on Saturday from 10:00 -11:00 AM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on August 3, 1931 in Memphis, TN, Betty was the daughter of the late John Lakeland Rewis, Sr. and the late Margaret Carolyn Hartzog Rewis. She graduated from Hay Long High School in Mt. Pleasant, TN in 1949 and attended the Columbia Business College in Columbia, TN. Betty worked as an accountant for Ragland Wholesale Grocery in Columbia and served as a payroll clerk for W.M. White Construction Company in Columbia. She was employed by the City of Columbia for 59 years and attained the position of City recorder in 1970. Betty attended Highland Church of Christ. She was the wife of Joe Tom Modrall who preceded her in death in June of 2009.
She is survived by her brother, James Wayne (Nancy) Rewis of El Paso, TX; sister, Margaret Jean Meadows of Macon, GA; several nieces and nephews; and special friend: Faye Hartsfield of Columbia.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Lakeland Rewis, Jr.
Pallbearers will be: Joe Rewis, James Rewis, Jr., George Meadows, Jr., Bob White, Terry Wright, and Jimmy Inglett.
John Paisley, Jerry Corvin, the current and retired employees of the City of Columbia, and the members of Highland Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Highland Church of Christ Building Fund: 497 E James Campbell Blvd, Columbia, TN 38401, or to The Scottish Rite Hospital for Children: 2222 Welborn St, Dallas, TX 75219.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and doctors of the Intensive Care Unit at Maury Regional Medical Center for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
