Robert Earl “Chic” Long, , 65, resident of Thick Rd. in Chapel Hill, passed away Saturday, January 23 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service for Chic will be held Monday, January 25 at 7:00PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Joe Beddingfield officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be all his railroad family.

Born January 22, 1951 in Giles County, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Barbara Stone Long and the husband of Diane Stanfill Long. He retired as a car mechanic from CSX Railroad after 42 years of service. Chic was an avid Bear Bryant and Alabama fan. He really enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren to make sure they loved and followed Alabama and loved animals, especially his dogs. He served his country in the Marines in Vietnam. He graduated from Pearl-Cohn High School and attended Draughons College.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: William Casey (Estelle) Long of Chapel Hill and Rachelle Diane Long of Nashville; brothers: Jimmy Long of Chapel Hill and Timmy Long of Pulaski; sisters: Ruth Ann (Joe) Beddingfeild of Woodville, AL, Sylvia Davis of Portland, Vicky Gordon and Barbara (Greg) Gray, both of Gallatin, Barbara Ann (Dennis) Garner of Pulaski; grandchildren: Tristan Long, Zoe Long and Lilly Long, all of Chapel Hill; several nieces and nephews.
