Martha Lou Estes

April 28, 1931 - January 6, 2016

Martha Lou Estes, age 84, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with David Buffaloe officiating. Burial will follow in Gibsonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on April 28, 1931 in Maury County, Martha was the daughter of the late L.D. Thurman and the late Rosie Sutton Thurman. She was a member of Highland Park Church of Christ and was a 1945 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Martha married Robert Estes on June 11, 1949. She was previously employed at Tennessee State Hatchery. Martha later worked at First Baptist Church as a custodian as well as NHC Hillview, later transferring to Life Care Center where she worked in housekeeping. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by her son: Eddie (Faye) Estes of Columbia; grandchildren: Craig (Sandra) Pedrick of Mt. Pleasant, Robin Workman of Springfield, Tony Estes of Mt. Pleasant; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Estes.
