Mr. Danny Vestal, age 70, husband of Thelma Vestal, and a resident of Nashville, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 6, 2015 at his residence.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Schrader Lane Church of Christ with Bro. Robert Gardenhire officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the church. Danny will lie in state on Friday, December 11, 2015 from 8:30 AM -5:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia. He will be laid to rest on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Army. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Danny was the son of the late George Vestal, Sr. and the late Donna Fowlks Vestal. He was married to his loving and devoted wife, Thelma, for 39 years. Together they had two children Danny LaBrian Vestal and Felicia D. Vestal Freeman.
He was a 1962 graduate of Clark High School in Mt. Pleasant and earned his Master’s Degree in education from Tennessee State University. Danny was enlisted in the United States Army for four years where he served one tour in Vietnam. He later served in the Tennessee National Guard. He worked for the Department of Corrections for the State of Tennessee at Woodland Hills Children Development Center for thirty years until he retired. Danny was on the Board of Directors for Buffalo Valley in Hohenwald where he highly enjoyed working. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Schrader Lane Church of Christ where he served as music assistant director for the youth chorus and later the assistant director for the adult chorus.
In his spare time, Danny enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as going to football games. He also loved going to Las Vegas each year with his Mt. Pleasant boys.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife: Thelma Shaw Vestal of Nashville; loving children: Danny LaBrian (Latrece) Vestal of Nashville, Felicia D. Vestal Freeman of Antioch; very special grandson: Kevin L. Freeman, Jr. of Antioch; loving and devoted mother-in-law: Ester McKissack of Nashville; brothers: George (Judith) Vestal, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, Mark Vestal of Knoxville, Clifford Dixon of Nashville, Samuel Lawrence of Chicago, IL; sisters: Marva Hudspeth of Mt. Pleasant, Dianne (Richard) James of Columbia, Wanda Vestal of Mt. Pleasant, Hattie Lowe of Hohenwald; sister-in-law: Margaret Vestal of Columbia; foster sister-in-law: Anntonette Hardison of Columbia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: James Satterfiled, Joan Blondell Whitaker, and William Byron Vestal.
Active pallbearers will be the Deacons of Schrader Lane Church of Christ. Honorary pallbearers will be: Bobby Richey, Gene Green, M.C. Holland, Timothy McCleskey, and Lurried Vinson, Sr. The Sisters of The Bordeaux Zone will serve as flower bearers.
