Gerald Roger Owens

October 16, 1947 - November 27, 2015

Mr. Gerald Roger “Jerry” Owens, age 68, a resident of Columbia, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 at Rockdale Medical Center in Conyers, Georgia.

Funeral services for Mr. Owens will be held 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time of 1:00 PM on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Carver-Smith High School class of 1964 and Buster Townsend. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gerald was born October 16, 1947 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Rogers Owens and the late Lucille Owens Smith and husband of Narcissus Pierce Owens. In 2005, he retired from Union Carbide, after 40 years of service. Affectionally know as “Jerry”, he liked hunting, fishing and socializing. He was constantly studying the atlas and could tell you how to get from point A to point B. He liked to watch old westerns on TV and was a big sports fan, especially when it came to Notre Dame Football.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Jerrica Harlan Of Smyrna, Star Hardin of Huntsville, AL, Natasha (Daniel) Porter of Murfreesboro and LaKaii Owens of Columbia; brothers: Larry (Joan) Owens of Richmond, VA and Marion Dale Owens of Columbia; sisters: Bettie (Sherman) Wilkinson of Georgetown, KY and Linda Owens of Columbia; devoted grandchildren: Kerrick, Kenton, Immanuel, Lael And Narci; God daughter: Shanell Lowery Shyes of Columbia

In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his brothers: William, Ralston and Jimmy Owens; sister: Barbara Jean Holmes.
