Born on December 2, 1949 in Mt. Pleasant, Larry was the son of the late Robert Newcomb and the late Virginia Byrd Newcomb. He was raised most of his life by his aunt and uncle, Ezel & Elizabeth Copeland. Larry was a 1969 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended two years at Columbia State Community College. He married Beverly "Pepe" Norman in 1980. Larry attended Riverview Baptist Church in Columbia. Larry's life revolved around music. He was a singer and songwriter and could play the drums, keyboard, and guitar. It was a God given talent; he played most everything by ear. He could tell you just about anything about music and any musician from the 1950s until now. He played in many bands, beginning at a young age. Over the years Larry was a business owner of many different night clubs in Columbia including: The Grind, Backstage, Rendezvous, and Rumors. In his younger years he worked at Scott Housing and Brittany Homes. He loved his family and all of his friends. His granddaughter, Brooklyn, was the light of his life. He even wrote a song about her titled, "Million Dollar Baby." For the past several years he would send out a "Good Morning" text every morning to all of his family, friends, and karaoke buddies. These texts often included a riddle or a trivial question to make them have to think. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his wife, Beverly, he is survived by his sons: Christopher Wayne Newcomb, Larry Brandon Newcomb, and Justin Ryne Newcomb all of Columbia; daughter: Misty (Eric) Lawson of Columbia; and grandchildren: Brooklyn Grace Newcomb and Presley Lawson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother: Harry Layne Newcomb. Pallbearers will be: William Brewer, Tony Love, Frankie Boswell, Roger Jones, Jerry Weatherford, Doug Thurman, Hodge Cook, and Ron Sellars. Honorary pallbearers will be: Justin Staggs, Tim Napier, Larry Hubbell, Allan Rodgers, and his friends of Newks Karaoke.
