Mrs. Frances Shelton, age 85, wife of well known Reverend Gene Shelton, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015 at her residence. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Lindstrom officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Peace at Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to Heritage Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on December 16, 1929 in Dade County, Florida, Frances was the daughter of the late Harvey Rodgers and the late Clara Sapp Rodgers. She was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene. She attended the University of Miami in Florida and later, Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville. Frances previously worked as a Records Clerk for the City of Columbia. She was married to the love of her life, Gene, for 62 years. She enjoyed doing yard work and raising her flowers. Frances was a very good cook and also played a little golf. Above everything else, she loved her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her husband, she leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons: Dexter (Kay) Shelton of Madison, AL, Dan (Tracy) Shelton of Niceville, FL; daughters: Debbie (Danny) Collins of Columbia, Jane (George) Loggins of Brentwood; brother: Clyde (Vonne) Rodgers of North Carolina; half-brother: George Alan Rodgers; sisters: Margaret Gray of Lake Wales, FL, Carol Harmon of Tampa, FL; and grandchildren: Rebecca (Taylor Loy) Shelton, Roger, Mark, Ethan, and Haley Shelton, and Shelly and Cody Loggins. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Roy and Carl; and her sisters: Delores and Evelyn. Pallbearers will be: Danny Collins, George Loggins, Taylor Loy, and her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Grace Church of the Nazarene. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice Compassus, Dr. Ben Gardner, and Christy Dickey.
