Mr. Bruce Ray Shoup, age 59, husband of Penny Jo Shoup, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at his residence on Murphy Lane in Columbia, TN. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Zion Presbyterian Church with Pastor Paul Joiner officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Born on May 8, 1956 in Hastings, Michigan, Bruce was the son of the late Donald Paul Shoup and the late Coreen Bertha Satterlee Shoup. He was a 1974 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. He married Penny Jo Boroff on January 17, 1976. Bruce earned his Associates Degree in Industrial Pipefitting at Lansing Community College. He retired from General Motors as a maintenance coordinator, but was currently working for Voith Contracting. He was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. Bruce was a devout follower of Christ. He made it his purpose in life to take care of others. In his spare time Bruce enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and boating. He was a runner as well as a ham radio operator. His family described him as being a great father, grandfather, and devoted husband who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his step-mother: Norma Jean Shoup; sons: Scott Matthew (Jaima) Shoup, Steven Michael (Lindsey) Shoup; daughters: Stacy Marie (Bernardo) Gonzalez, Stephanie Michelle (Tyler) Folkman; brothers: George Randal (Coleen) Shoup, Robert Leroy (Deanna) Shoup; sisters: Lynette Sue (Brian) Robinson, Tami Ann (George) Stickles, Donna Jean (Doug) Morse, Paula Marie (Jeff) Meaton; and grandchildren: Kyla Shoup, Hannah and Brielle Folkman, and Dulce, Isla, and Shara Gonzalez. Pallbearers will be Dale Bryant, Peter Willems, Joe Rhodes, Chip Crane, and the elders of the church. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Pregnancy Centers of Middle Tennessee or Special Kids of Murfreesboro.
