Mrs. Lillian Jeweldean Humphrey Griggs, age 88, and a resident of The Bethel Community in Santa Fe, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015, at Grace Healthcare of Franklin. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 12:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Johnson's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Lillian Jeweldean was born to Rosie Etta Kelley Humphrey and John Mathis Humphrey in a four room farm house on Black Branch, Johnson's Chapel Community in Maury County on February 26, 1927. She grew up and lived in the Johnson's Chapel Community for seventeen years and attended the one room school in Johnson's Chapel. Lillian is the youngest child with seven older brothers and one sister. On March 7, 1944, Lillian married Rulen Vester Griggs (World War II Veteran) in Athens, AL. Together, they had four children. Lillian lived in the Bethel Community and had been a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church for 42 years. While her children were growing up, she was a mother and homemaker. In the early 1980's, she did volunteer work for Williamson Medical Center where later she was employed as the hospital's receptionist. She adored her cats: Spooky and Precious and her dog: Lucky. Always very creative, Lillian enjoyed oil painting, sewing, gardening, reading, and country and western dancing. She is survived by her daughters: Sandra Arlene (Mike) Smiley of Ashland City, Lynn Aileen (Mike) Davis of Franklin; grandchildren: Daylan (Keshia) Davis, Lathan Davis, Karla (David) Yarbrough; and great-grandchildren: Hunter Davis, Landon Davis, and Vincent Yarbrough. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Gary Michael Griggs; daughter: Carol Ann Griggs; and Rulen Griggs; and siblings: Dave, Elton, Early, Ethel, Hervie, Lester, and Dennis Humphrey. Pallbearers will be Mike Davis, Mike Smiley, Daylan Davis, Lathan Davis, Wilford Potts, and Keith Potts. Honorary pallbearers will be her friends and neighbors of the Bethel Community.
