Diana Bailey, age 62, a resident of Columbia, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Talvin Barner officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday one hour prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on October 17, 1952 in Boston, MA, Diana was the granddaughter of the late Robert & Rachel Alred and the daughter of the late Frances Alred. She was a devoted member of The Potter House in Columbia where she served as the secretary. Diana was a 1969 graduate of Columbia Central High School. She worked as a social service worker at Head Start in Columbia for ten years. In 2002, she transferred to ICP in Lewisburg where she worked for a year. She is survived by her daughter: Fikisa (James) Washington of Columbia; brother: Johnny (Malinda) Alred of Columbia; sister: Charlotte Davis of Columbia; grandchildren: Kochandra Bailey, Tyrik Bailey, Travelle Bailey, Taionna Smith, Janisa Washington, James Washington; nieces and nephews: Thomas Leshan Moore, Clentis Maurice Moore, Carmelita "Lisa" Moore, Sharika N. Alred; devoted aunt: Gladys Louise Campbell; close friends: Sandra Gillespie, Beverly Kinzer, Theresa Brooks; and a host of cousins and other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Burnes Bailey and her son: Gavin "Petey" Bailey.
