Mr. Gary W. Hood, age 71, a resident of Culleoka, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 at his residence. A celebration of Gary's life with memories shared by family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 4:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Ledbetter officiating. A visitation with the family will also be held on Saturday one hour prior to the service from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A native of Maury County, Gary was born on September 17, 1943 and was the son of the late Fred Richard and Hildred Willis Hood. He served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Norfolk during Cuban missile crisis and attained the rank of E-5. Gary worked as a senior systems analyst at Honeywell and when he retired, he continued working with computers in his own photo restoration business. His hobbies were astronomy, genealogy and music. He had a brief career as a science fiction writer and a passion for tinkering with and fixing anything. Most of all, he was a beloved father and grandfather that will be dearly missed. He is survived by his daughter: Mary Kathryn (Brantley) Tate of Missouri; sister: Nancy Gray of Columbia, TN; grandchildren: Katherine Christine Arnold, Melissa Jeannine Arnold, and Mathew Wyatt Tate; former wife: Marilyn Chappell Hood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Fred Buford, John, Donald, Paul, and Ray Hood; sisters: Anna Mai Hood, Emma Jean Lanius; and grandchild: James S. Arnold.
