Mary Frances Smith Daniels Hickman

August 7, 1933 - August 10, 2015

Mary Frances Smith Daniels Hickman, age 82, a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at Life Care Center of Columbia. A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, August 12 at 2 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Telford Tharpe officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. The family will meet with friends Tuesday, August 11 from 4-8 PM, as well as, one hour prior to the Wednesday service at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born August 7, 1933 in Hohenwald, Mary was the daughter of the late Andrew Jessie and Alma Jane Lomax Smith. She was employed as a seamstress at Dixie Manufacturing for over twenty-five years, Burger King for about five years, and Albertson's as a cashier for nearly six years. Mary was of the Baptist faith. She was an excellent seamstress and made all of her children's clothes. For her morning routine, Mary would get dressed up for the day just in case someone stopped by, so she could be ready to grab her purse and go. She didn't care where she was going, as long as she was along for the ride. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, going to yard sales, shopping, reading her shop catalog, fishing, and camping. She had a great love for her grandchildren, and would help anyone who was in need of help. Left behind to carry on her memory are: her Sons: Frankie (Ruby) Daniels of Old Hickory, Jimmy (Ruth) Daniels of Spring Hill, and Joe (Shelby) Daniels of Summertown; Daughters: Betty (Steve) Gandee of Columbia, Kathy (Tony) Helmick of Columbia, Nora (Bobby) Mangrum of Columbia, and Joyce (A.D.) Cunningham of Centerville; Sister: Betty Evelyn Simmons of Columbia; Grandchildren: Kelley Gandee Blackwell, Sean Daniels, Chris Daniels, Christy Hunter, Ashlea Mangrum, Brandon McGill, Scott Gandee, Martianne Daniels Oden, Jason Overstreet, B.J. Mangrum, Amber Mangrum, and Laura Parrish; Step-Grandchildren: Rebecca Sanders and Melissa Scates; Sixteen Great-Grandchildren; and one Great Great-Grandchild. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by: Husbands: J.C. Daniels and Paul Chandler; Brothers: William Smith, Jessie Smith, and Alfred Smith; Grandson: Derrick Clark; Sister: Bessie Smith Bradford; and Son-In-Law: Bobby Mangrum. Pallbearers will be: Chris Daniels, Tony Helmick, Michael Simmons, Jimmy Daniels, Joe Daniels, and Sean Daniels. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Brian Owens, Brandon McGill, Mark Gandee, Scott Gandee, Brian Cooper, Henryville Volunteer Fire Department, Columbia Lions Club, and the staff at Life Care Center. The family wants to thank Dr. Kennedy, Hospice Compassus, the staff at Life Care Center with a special thanks to her nurses: Hollie, Caitlynn, Fonda, and Deborah.
