Richard Ewald

October 23, 1937 - August 7, 2015

Mr. Richard R. Ewald, Sr., age 77, a resident of Newt Hood Rd. in Columbia, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at his residence. A memorial service will be held at his home at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born October 23, 1937 in New York, NY, Richard was the son of the late Wilhelm and Ellie Lang Ewald. He married the love of his life, Sally Teal Ewald, on October 6, 1962 and spent 52 loving years together. He worked as a carpenter at Carpenters Union in Albany, NY. He was also of the Lutheran faith. Richard was a long time resident of Averill Park, NY and was an excellent carpenter and builder by trade. In his spare time, he enjoyed working with radio controlled aircrafts. Along with a love of water, he was a scuba diver, and he served in the Navy Reserves. His dog Luther was by his side. In addition to his wife, Sally, Richard is survived by his Son: Richard (Alice) Ewald, Jr. of Columbia; Daughter: Erika (Jan) Aukerman of Ann Arbor, MI; and Grandchildren: Benjamin Aukerman and Nicholas Aukerman, both of Ann Arbor MI, Jessica Ewald, Jacob Ewald, and Jared Ewald, all of Columbia. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his Brother, William Ewald, and sister, Marian Olson.
