Mrs. Mary Jean Casteel, age 70, loving wife of Harlin Casteel, Jr., and a resident of Theta Pike in Columbia, passed away Tuesday evening, July 14, 2015 at her residence. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 3:00 PM at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ with Dr. Henry Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Eternity at Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to Heritage Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on June 16, 1945 in Giles County, Mary was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Daisy Mae Stofel Owens. She married the love of her life, Harlin Casteel, Jr. on November 21, 1964, and they spent a wonderful 50 years together. Mary was a housewife and was an avid cook, gardener, and seamstress. She was devoted to her church and loved attending church services. Her life revolved around her church and her family. Mary often enjoyed bragging on her children and grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter: Karen Cheriece (Andrew) Riley of Bloomington, Indiana; brother: William "Bill" Thomas (Billie Jean) Owens, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, TN; sister: Lucille Vick of Columbia; grandchildren: Harlin Casteel Riley, Ava Marie Cheriece Riley; sisters-in-law: Shelby Jean Pope Owens, Ann Owens, Zady Pearl Casteel Rose, and Doris Elizabeth Casteel Scott. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: George Owens, Christine Parker, LeRoy Owens, Robert Owens, James Michael Owens; and sisters-in-law: Wanda June Casteel Jones, Virginia Casteel Pitt. Pallbearers will be: David Parker, Jr., Rickey Turner, David Parker, Bobby Parker, Donald Francis, Matthew Scott, Greg Scott, and Ray Rose. The men at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
