Mr. John Richard "Rick" Hood, age 61, a resident of Columbia, formerly of Lawrenceburg for 25 years, passed peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, June 27 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 29 at 11:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Jeff Putman officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to Heritage Funeral Home, with military honors provided by the Tennessee National Guard. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 28 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born in Davidson County on October 26, 1953, Rick was the son of Nell Parsley Hood and the late John W. Hood. He was raised in Columbia but later transferred to Lawrenceburg where he began his career as the owner and operator of Rick Hood's Drain Doctor where he worked hard and appreciated his many customers. Rick was a 1972 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He was a man of God who loved giving to people in need and went on several mission trips to South Africa. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg. In his past time, he enjoyed going on the river and boating. Rick was a hard worker who also enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He loved his daughter and grandchildren as well as his beloved dogs. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter: Penny (Will) Green of Columbia; sister: Nelda (Joe) Morgan of Union City; grandchildren: Meagan Green, Hannah Green, Katherine Green, all of Columbia; nephews: Clay Morgan, Brad Morgan, and Drew Morgan, all of Union City; niece: Erin Morgan of Union City; several great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Becky Hood of Lawrenceburg. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents. Pallbearers will be: Brad Morgan, Drew Morgan, Todd Rose, Colt Hughes, Trent McConnell, and Emanuel Morgan. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial to be made to your local animal shelter.
