Rena Helms

Rena Helms, age 80, a resident of Chapel Hill, passed away Friday evening, June 5, 2015 at Signature Healthcare. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 4PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Garden of Eternity at Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to Heritage Funeral Home. The family will also visit with friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. She was born in Gastonia, NC on September 16, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Henry Carson and Ruth Williams Lutz. She worked as a housewife the majority of her life. She enjoyed watching television, rocking in her rocking chair, and taking relaxing car rides. She also enjoyed spending time with her two poodles, Boo Boo and Angel. In addition to her husband of 64 years, Augustus Helms, she is survived by her son; Michael Darren Helms, brother Johnny Lutz, and many grandchildren; Michael (Erika) Shane Helms, Jeffrey Helms, Kelley Helms, Donita Helms, Roger Helms, and Heather Helms. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Billy Lutz, her sister Shirley Lutz, and her son Roger Helms.
