Melva Louise Floyd, age 87, a resident of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at her residence following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 29th at 2pm at Heritage Funeral Home with Brother Ezell Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, May 28th from 4-8pm and on Friday from 12pm until the 2pm service at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Mrs. Floyd, affectionately known as "Granny" by her grandchildren, was born September 7, 1927 in Lynnville, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Marshall Brown and Lacy Thurman Williamson and was raised in the Stiversville community. She was a graduate of Jones High School in Lynnville and was a member of the Church of Christ. She worked as a sales associate at Sears in Mt. Pleasant for many years and also for Davis Dress Shop. Melva loved helping others which is why she enjoyed private sitting for people. She also enjoyed listening to gospel and country music, sewing, and cooking. Above all, she adored her family. Her spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her children, Billy Allen (Darlene) Floyd of Horn Lake, MS, Jimmy (Brenda) Floyd of Mt. Pleasant, Gay Floyd, Phil (Penny) Floyd, and Ricky Floyd, all of Columbia; brother, Billy Williamson of Columbia; sister, Bettye Ferguson of Columbia; she is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. Along with her parents, Melva was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Bridgette and Clay Floyd; sister, Brownie Brunson, and brothers, J.B., Dean, Joe, and Frank (Dene) Williamson. Pallbearers will be Jim Floyd, Joshua Floyd, Tyler Floyd, Steve Floyd, Will Floyd, Jason Hatcher, Chris Murphy, and Jonathan Swenson. The family would like to express their appreciation to all the caregivers who helped care for her during her illness.
