Dennis Wright Mabry, age 79, a resident of Columbia, TN, husband of Dorothy Mabry, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 10th at 1pm in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Jim Matthews and Frank Varnado officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, April 9th from 4pm-8pm at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Dennis was born in Giles County on February 23, 1936 and was the son of the late Ernest Mabry and Cordie Lanning Mabry. He attended Haylong High School in Mt. Pleasant and was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was of the Methodist faith. He used to enjoy camping and fishing. He was always his happiest working and being outside. He most recently loved going down to Hardees and having coffee with his friends. He was a man that will be remembered the most by setting an example to all by the way he lived his life. He was always a kind man that was never disrespectful. He will be greatly missed by all. Along with his loving wife Dorothy Nicholson Mabry of 61 years, Dennis is survived by his sons: Dennis Michael (Janice) Mabry of Columbia, and Mark E. (Cheryl) Mabry of Murfreesboro; daughter: Jan (Frank) Varnado of Columbia; brother: James Glenn (Emily) of Columbia; and sister-in-law: Gayle Mabry of Columbia; grandchildren: Ben (Cindy) Varnado, Bryan (Sara) Varnado, Brandon Mabry, Brittany (Ryan) Floyd, Austin W. Mabry;great grandchildren: Isabelle Varnado, Taylor Varnado, Joyce Varnado, Sam Varnado, and Tyler Floyd; several nieces and nephews; and three dogs: Care Bear, Izzy, and Gizmo. Along with his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brothers Paul and Kenneth Mabry. Memorial donations can be made to Pet Pals of Maury County, Russell Rescue, or Christian Veterinary Mission. Pallbearers will be Ben Varnado, Bryan Varnado, Brandon Mabry, Austin Mabry, Todd Mabry, Dale Mabry, Brad Hayes, and Tim Nicholson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy and Sue Campbell, JP Due, Jerry Corvin, Mike Littrell, Bobby Potts, Van Boshers, Ray Holden, Jerry Nichols, Johnny Sullivan, Jackie Potts, Brian Varnado, Tim Bratton, Mable Baxter, and Spoonie Witherspoon. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Jacques Heibig and his nurse Sharron Howell, nurses and staff of 1 West at Maury Regional Medical Center and Skilled Nursing Unit, Dr. J. Spencer Jensen, and Dr. Tom Farmer.
