Georgia Watkins, age 74, a resident of Columbia, passed away Thursday evening, March 19, 2015 at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 1:00 PM at New Harvest Family Church with Bishop Carl McCullen officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 4:00- 7:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on April 5, 1940 in Maury County, Georgia was the daughter of the late Newman and Addie Wilson Sowell. She worked as an aide in the healthcare industry and was a member of New Harvest Family Church. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and gardening, especially flowers. Georgia was known to love people and truly enjoyed the company of others, especially her family and church family. She will be remembered for her bright smile, positive outlook, and her loving nature. Even in the face of illness, she never lost her smile. She is survived by her six daughters: Deborah (Keith Gentry) Watkins, Darlene Watkins, Loraine Watkins, Ruthie (Michael) Fuller, Retta Muhammad, and Sharon Watkins, all of Columbia; eleven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Watkins, Jr., son, George Leslie Watkins, grandson, Dequarius Watkins, and two great grandsons: Trayceton Clemons and Dequatrius Miller. Her nephews and deacons of New Harvest Family Church will serve as pallbearers. Flower girls will be her nieces and New Harvest Family Church ushers.
