Mrs. Daisy Lee Walton Burns, age 81, wife of R.M. "Buddy" Burns, and a resident of the Hilltown Community in Santa Fe, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at Life Care Center of Columbia. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Ledbetter and Pastor Don Emmitt officiating. Burial will follow on the family farm in Burns Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and again on Thursday one hour prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A native of Maury County, Daisy was born on January 11, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Willie Berry and Clarcie Beard Walton. She married the love of her life, R.M. "Buddy" Burns, on January 27, 1951, and they spent 64 incredible years together. Daisy loved raising her kids and she often enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as gardening. She caught the record weighing catfish at Williamsport Lake, weighing approximately 55 pounds. She started deer hunting in 1975, killing her first deer with a bow and arrow. In her life time she killed 217 deer, a wild hog, and two bob cats. Daisy was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She was a member of Santa Fe Baptist Church where she enjoyed working in the nursery for many years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son: James (Judy) Burns of Spring Hill; daughters: Wilma McConnell of Cross Plains, Joanne (Wayne) Pruitt of Columbia, Brenda (Mike) Johnson of Columbia, Debbie (Charles) James of Santa Fe; sisters: Martha Mai Spears Daniel of Lawrenceburg, Evelyn Faye Spears Burns of Santa Fe; sisters-in-law: Shirley Patterson, Mary Francis Stanfill; grandchildren: Thomas Robert Burns, Jeannie (mark) Fairhurst, Jason (Karen) McConnell, Brandon (Kindal) Pruitt, Daniel (Jessica) Pruitt, Danielle Daniels, Whitney (Joseph) Conrad, Austin Garner, Amanda (Jeff) Boshers, Bryan (Crystal) James, Diana James, and Ricky James; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter: Betty Sue Burns; brothers: James Enos "Tie" Walton, Carl Thoms "Buck" Walton, Elmer Louis Spears; and sisters: Velma Gladys Walton Cox, Mary Louise Walton Spears, and Ruby Marvene Spears Burns. Pallbearers will be Thomas Burns, Brandon Pruitt, Austin Garner, Bryan James, Ricky James, Jason McConnell, and Daniel Pruitt. Members of Santa Fe Baptist Church, employees of Life Care Center, Dr. Doug Kennedy, and Dr. Cummins Couch will serve as honorary pallbearers.
