Mary Sue Floyd, 82, went home to her heavenly father Friday, February 20, 2015. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Hunter Room of Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Wilkes Cemetery in Culleoka. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, February 27, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and again one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on October 23, 1932 in Scott Hollow of Culleoka - Mary Sue was the daughter of Sallie Sue (Damron) Scott & Miles Dugger Scott. She is preceded in death by Harold Floyd, her husband of 54 years & the love of her life. Harold passed away in 2011. Mary Sue has two devoted daughters, Mollie Floyd and Susie (Dr. Brian) Jackson and 2 grandchildren whom she adored, Christopher & Suzannah Jackson. Feisty, enthusiastic, merry-hearted, independent, kind and loving - she was all these things and more. Mary Sue always put her family first and was an avid supporter of anything they were involved in. She was a lifelong member of the West 7th Street Church of Christ. Mary Sue was a member of the Jane Knox Polk Chapter of the DAR, the Capt. James Madison Sparkman Chapter of the UDC & Maury County Historical Society. She was the family genealogist & spent many hours in research. Mary Sue was a civilian reenactor at living history events and was involved with the APTA Home Tours. She was also a founding member of the Wooodrow Volunteeer Fire Department and a member of the Woodrow Community Club. She was very generous with her money and her time and was always helping others. In her youth, she was avid horsewoman and continued her love of animals throughout her life. Mary Sue was a 1951 graduate of Culleoka High School - where she received the DAR Good Citizen Medal. She also attended Columbia Business College - afterwards, she was employed as a secretary with Ross Insurance Agency. Mary Sue was very outgoing and had many friends - including lifelong friend, Frances Baker. Caring friends: Ann Swinney, Tammy Black, the late Shirley Green, Lynn Green, Diane Latting, Jane Wells & Dorothy Jean Witherow. Special friends: Roger, Sharon & Travis Howell & Tyler Gestring. When Mary Sue was asked what life lessons she lived by, she answered: "Follow God, Be kind to everybody, don't consider yourself better than other people & always tell the truth". Pallbearers will be Brian Jackson, Christopher Jackson, Joe Bishop, Roger Howell, Travis Howell and Tyler Gestring. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Anderson & Elliotte Kinzer. Memorials can be made to the Maury County Animal Shelter, 1233 Mapleash Avenue, Columbia, TN; in honor of her love of animals and especially her kitties Ashley & David.
