Mr. Harold D. Foster, age 84, husband of LaVerne L. Foster, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at his residence. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Christ our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Chuck Westra officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Army. A visitation with the family will also be held on Monday one hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on March 1, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, Harold was the son of the late Cyrus and Mary Harris Foster. He was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and a member of Christ our Savior Lutheran Church in which he was very active. Harold served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict where he was awarded the bronze star. He was very achieved in wood working. Harold loved his family above anything else and will be deeply missed. In addition to his wife , LaVerne of nearly 63 years, he is survived by his daughter: Pat (Troy) Piland of Franklin; and grandchildren: Tara Thomas of Omaha, NE, Phillip Stevens of Lynchburg, VA, Darold Foster of Wahoo, NE, and Christina Piland of Franklin. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son: David Harold Foster; grandson: Jonathan "Forrest" Stevens; and twelve brothers and sisters.
