John William Lang

August 20, 1949 - January 9, 2015

Mr. John William Lang, 65, husband of Janet Thornton Lang, and resident of Columbia, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015, at Maury Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Columbia with Pastor Chuck Westra officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service on Saturday with lunch to follow. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on August 20, 1949, in Ferndale, Michigan, John was the son of the late Harold William and Willie Mae Lane Lang. He was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church and a retired employee of General Motors. John was the kind of man everyone wanted to get to know. He had a unique sense of humor and a love for life. His sense of humor was evident to everyone around him, but his co-workers at Saturn will especially think of him with laughter every time they hear someone say, "What about me?" With him, there was never a dull moment. He was a tractor riding man and a great provider for his family, but out of all these things, he will be remembered for the way he loved his family. His wife lovingly refers to him as her best friend, calling him her "honey boy" for over 50 years, with almost 49 years married. He was a devoted father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family more than anything else. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife, John is survived by a son, John William (Kimberly-Lou) Lang II of Columbia, a daughter, Michelle (Michael) Bruno of Birmingham, Alabama, three grandchildren, Trew Canyon Lang, Dakota Clay Lang, Tony Bruno, sister-in-law, Margie Lang of Burnsville, North Carolina, and a nephew, Christopher Lang of Orlando, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Lang. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Tennessee Kidney Foundation at 95 White Bridge Road, Suite 300, Nashville, TN 37205; The Autism Society of Middle Tennessee at 955 Woodland Street, Nashville, TN 37206; or Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church at 2494 Nashville Highway, Columbia, TN 38401.
