R.B. "Beatle" Potts

January 24, 1936 - December 19, 2014

Mr. R.B. Potts, age 78, a resident of the Hilltown community in Santa Fe, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at NHC Hillview in Columbia. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 22, 2014, at 11:00 AM, at Heritage Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Potts Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Born on January 24, 1936, in Primm Springs (Dog Creek), he was the son of the late Calvin Potts, Sr. and Josie Byrd Potts. He was retired from Union Carbide and of the Nazarene faith. He enjoyed working with his family and friends at Potts Brothers Saw Mill, as well as, sitting in the shop with Calvin Atkins and eating breakfast with Jim Dotson. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Frances Shouse, who would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on December 22. He is also survived by 3 sons: Bobby Potts, Jeff Potts, and Guy Potts, all of Santa Fe; one daughter, Judy (Ernie) Culberson, also of Santa Fe; one brother: Charlie R. Potts of Santa Fe; six sisters: Ruth P. Smith of Culleoka, Kathleen Mitchell of Santa Fe, Audrey Slaughter of Primm Springs, Ester (Wayne) Kinney of Santa Fe, Earline Morrow of Santa Fe, and Carolyn (Calvin) Atkins of Santa Fe; four grand children: Rhonda (Steve) Stewart of Suffolk, Virginia, Jana (Mark) Graves of Santa Fe, Robbie (Bobbie Ray) Anderson of Santa Fe, and Kristen Potts of Culleoka; three great grandchildren: Kahil Graves, Andrew Graves, and Traven Anderson, all of Santa Fe. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by son, Ricky Carlton Potts, brothers: Robert Potts, Calvin Potts, Jr., and Frank Potts, and sister, Marie Goodson. Pallbearers will be Calvin Atkins, Sanford McCord, Lindon Baker, Jeremy Dotson, Chris Webb, Austin Collier, and Kahil Graves. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Dotson and Fred McCord.
